i forget where i am in the early mornings
and the dimming darkness and the creeping light
swirl together. perhaps i am lost in this sea.
entangled, my skin touched your skin
and for the first time i felt as if i belonged
to you, and that you belonged to me.
my arm was your arm and your back was my back.
we held us together and carried our burdens.
our skin sprouted flowers along our veins;
the creases in our skin mapped out towns-
our lifelines were roads connecting our islands;
our bodies made supple waves as we
crashed into each other.
we converge in the nook between old friends and young lovers
our histories are dogeared by the readership of others,
we are underlined and highlighted, learning points
for others’ futures.
